Black Belt Performance!

Our bodies move all day long and yet we seldom think about how we do it.  Most movement is routine; lift a box, push open a door, squat down to retrieve a fallen item; we rarely even notice that our muscles are creating the movement.  Most of the time we don’t need to notice, as these types of actions are created without a lot of cognitive thought.  But in the case of training and growing in the martial arts, focusing on our movement and muscles can make a huge difference in our performance and growth.

When training, it is important that we go beyond routine movement.  For maximum growth when practicing physical skills, concentrate on the specific muscles used in various motions.  By visualizing their specific execution, you can take a quantum leap forward in the quality of your movements.  Thoughtlessly running through your kata, kicks or self-defense techniques, just to get your repetitions in, only results in sloppy technique, fatigue and minimal personal development.

To reach a Black Belt level of performance, you need to be mentally involved in your movements.  First, you must target the muscles you want to use.  Then, “put you mind into the muscles” and see and feel them contract throughout the full range of motion.  You must will your muscles to explode when explosion is needed, and to relax when relaxation is required.  Having this kind of muscle awareness when training can turn an average workout into a super growth session and give you “Black Belt Performance!

CKA 2010 Summer Jam Was One HOT Event!

The 2010 CKA Summer Jam was one hot event this past Saturday (June 26th)! The day got started with a bang!, as Black Belt Forms got started at 9:00am. From the first divisions it was clear that the competition had been training, and FKB members would have to be on top of their game to win. And win we did… Showing t...he character of a champion, FKB put its head down and, despite stiff competition, was dominant yet again! Brining about 20 competitors to the summer-time event, FKB took numerous first places often eliminating other competitors from the academy in championship matches! More importantly, all FKB Team members and their families purported themselves in an exemplary manner – often taking the time to coach and help out competitors from other schools and academies. A few highlights (there where many) are; Sarah Willis taking three first places and the women’s Grand Championship in fighting after a near two year layoff. Ian Trembly and Matt Weant, taking first place in fighting for the first time despite an unbelievably game fields. Aaron Howard and Anthony Weant, having an epic battle for first place in their fighting division. Amy Dollar’s stellar kata performances. Lauren Sides return to the ring after a long absence. And finally Barb Schrader’s dramatic improvement in kata with a sweet rendition of Gankaku.

Check out the awesome pictures on the Five Knuckle Bullet Team's FB page at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/Five-Knuckle-Bullet-Competition-Team Below are the individual results.

Five Knuckle Bullet Starts 2010 Off With A Bang!

The 2010 Colorado Karate Association season began at the Parker Field House, in Parker CO, on Saturday, March 13th, with more than 300 competitors at the Colorado Martial Arts Open.  The stripped down and reinvigorated Five Knuckle Bullet Competition Team made their presence felt immediately, with around 25 competitors vying for supremacy in divisions across the board!  When the dust had settled, FKB had earned more than 20 first place finishes, and the forms and sparring Grand Championships!
